The designer, professor and researcher Ezio Manzini founded the international net DESIS: Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability over a decade ago. DESIS dedicates itself to design for the social innovation and it has become a referent within this field.

Next Friday, November 25th, Manzini will visit the School again to present DESIS Lab ELISAVA, the first DESIS Network lab in Spain.

Within the framework of the presentation, we will have another exceptional guest, the journalist, writer and design theorist John Thackara, who will give the lecture “How to Thrive in the Next Economy: Designing Tomorrow’s World Today”, the first one of the series of lectures “Speak in tonguesby DesisLab ELISAVA.

From British roots, John Thackara has traveled during three decades around the world searching for communities that have installed sustainable projects. From 2011 he directs Doors of Perception, which gathers a community of innovators and designers that project new sustainable approaches for bare necessities.

From 1993 to 1999 he was the director of the Netherlands Design Institute in Amsterdam. From 2007 to 2010, he coordinated the programmeDesigns of the Time”, the English biennal dedicated to social innovation. He is currently member of the UK Parliament’s Standing Commission on Design.

He is the author of twelve books, from these the one that has sold the most is ‘In the Bubble: Designing In A Complex World’ (MIT Press).
